Netflix released another movie and I’m all for it. Unlike most movies on Netflix, this isn’t a romantic comedy but it’s a beautiful narrative about a girl named Amber who’s the sweetest, most caring girl shown. But she’s hiding a secret: she’s homeless living in a school bus with her mom.

Hope
During these difficult and trying times, people need hope and this movie will definitely strike a chord if you’re one of those people. Despite all the struggles Amber has to go through, she’s the most lively, cheerful and giving person ever. Her dad passes away, she becomes homeless, her mom finds an abusive boyfriend and gets drunk after being sober for a few months, her mom dies, her dog need an 8000 dollar surgery and she misses her dream university audition. After all of that, the community, who love amber for the person she is, joins together to raise money for her. Even when all hope is lost, things can work out.

Not a Love Story
Even though Amber has a love interest in the movie, it’s not the focus of the entire movie. For all the people who like subtle cheesiness, this is the movie for you. It’s not overpowering but just the right amount you know? As much as I love a good old rom-com, sometimes it’s the little things rather than a big grand gesture.

Realistic VS Non-realistic
In some ways, this movie does highlight some real problems faced by a lot of people. Amber has to work several jobs; she has to even leave school at one point to be able to save money for Bobby’s surgery however at the same time the movie is also un-realistic in the sense that happy endings aren’t the only endings. Not everyone has the immense support she did and not everyone is as strong as she is. That being said, maybe movies are meant to be a ray of hope, maybe the producers wanted to make us believe in the sheer power of community and altruism.

Well-balanced
To me, this movie was a really well-balanced and wholesome. It had all the right ingredients you need in a good movie. It was a journey of emotions, sadness at how unfair things were for Amber, anger at why life is unfair, happiness when things worked out. It talked about a lot of dark issues but at the same time it wasn’t too gloomy because of the ton of support she got from various characters (even Donna) plus it had a strong message of hope even in the deepest darkest of days.

Watch the movie and let us know if you enjoyed it!
