We’re back with another classic Netflix web series review. This time it’s a show filled with blackmail, a punch of drama and to top it all off, a kick of looooveee. I mean normal Netflix stuff you know? *SPOILER ALERT*
High School Drama
Like a good old coming of age show, this one too has a lot of drama. Whether it’s Elodie running away with an Indie rock goddess, living the tour life or whether it’s Moe’s dysfunctional family or her issues in her love life or whether it’s Tabitha and her long list of terrible love interests (“shingler” is the word Moe uses), this ten episode season is for the all of you who live for that tea!
LOVE LOVE LOVE
We have a few old and a few new love interests in this season. If we talk about Moe, her on again off again relationship with Noah keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the season right till the end. Elodie and Sabine end pretty quickly and a new closeted girl pops up. Tabitha’s boyfriend Luca disappears after stealing her credit card while her other ex boyfriend keeps trying to get back together after abusing her and her new boyfriend-ish, Ben is actually Moe’s brother back from the military school…uh long long list.
The Message
This season talks about some big issues starting with kleptomania- like the season before. It’s an emotional story about three girls suffering with this very real addiction and highlights the problems and repercussions that come with it. The raw innocent pain highlighted in the show was really important and how having a support group helped them power through all the struggles showed just how important it is to be surrounded by people you love. Another important issue that was mentioned was how black people still have to face discrimination even in this day and age. Tabitha changing her hair style to be who she wanted to be was an extremely empowering moment in the show. The third issue mentioned was that of abuse. Brady abused Tabitha several times when they were dating and was doing to Kayla after they broke up. Her journey on hiding it and then in the season finale, exposing Brady for the asshole he was, is one of the main story lines of the show.
Friendship
The evolution of the friendship between the three girls was really fun to watch. Even through all their problems and all their fights and arguments, they developed this strong unbreakable bond that was a delight to watch. Even though they came together through a shared pain, they managed to turn that into something beautiful. I miss my friends now ugh.
Overall, somehow Netflix managed to talk about some very vital issues faced by teenagers and people in general yet the show wasn’t a downer and doesn’t bog you down unlike the sensationalized 13 reasons why. It’s a well-balanced mixture of normal high school ups and downs, romance and some pretty serious yet real problems faced by several people so that’s why I recommend this series. Watch it and let us know if you enjoyed it.
